As we have previously highlighted most non-Belgians have the right to cast a vote in the October 2024 municipal elections and local government in Belgium is small but mighty - the politicians that run your municipality have a big impact on your daily life. All EU citizens resident in Belgium have the right to vote in the municipal elections, as do non-EU citizens who have been resident here at least five years – but the deadline to register is very soon: Wednesday 31 July.

So, if you want your say then don’t delay and sign up today. For international residents of Brussels our friends at Restless Brussels have put together a handy guide on Instagram to navigate the registration process and the link to voter registration can be found here.
In Brussels, international residents make up around one-third of the eligible voting population – and the municipal level of government is incredibly important in shaping what your neighbourhoods and communities look like – so isn’t it time to get involved?
Restless Brussels have also investigated many of the common misconceptions about who can vote in Brussels, and the obligation to vote. The result is a myth busting video also available on Instagram that should help assuage the fears of any reluctant voters.
